Topping her eight year career with the Cayman Island Cadet Corps (CICC) by attending the annual Caribbean Cadet Camp that was held for the first time in the Cayman Islands, senior cadet Shanice Kelly reflects on her time with the youth organisation, giving insight into what it has to offer young people.

She initially joined the Cadet Corps after being encouraged to do so by her parents, who wanted her to follow in the footsteps of her older brother, who was already a member of the Corps. However, Kelly soon came to enjoy being a part of the organisation on her own.

Following a cholera outbreak in Cuba, Cayman’s Medical Officer of Health Dr. Kiran Kumar has issued a travel advisory recommending travel to that country on an essential basis only.

According to media reports Cuba is facing a cholera outbreak 130 years after the last known case of the disease on the Island. As at 7 July at least 15 people are dead, and over one thousand persons are affected by the current cholera outbreak.

According to the US Centres of Disease Control (CDC) about 1 man in 6 will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during his lifetime. Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in American men, behind only lung cancer. About 1 man in 36 will die of prostate cancer.

The prevalence of colon cancer adds to these grim figures. As the third most commonly diagnosed cancer and the second leading cause of cancer death in men in the US, the American Cancer Society estimates that this year 143,460 people will be diagnosed with colon cancer. More than 51,600 will die from it.
